Practice Cyber Safety and Security during Internet Safety Month
June marks Internet Safety Month and the start of summer break for many K-12 schools. Because malicious cyber actors can take advantage of holidays or breaks to launch cyberattacks, it is especially important for administrators and staff to stay vigilant against potential cyber risks and threats. There are simple steps all members of the school community can take to be cyber safe and to prevent and protect against online threats. DHS Releases Summary of Terrorism Threat to the United States
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) Bulletin regarding the continued heightened threat environment across the United States. The NTAS Bulletin communicates critical terrorism information and provides resources individuals and organizations, including schools, can access to keep communities safe. Read More
Youth Violence Prevention Funding Opportunity Available through DOJ
The FY 2023 Youth Violence Prevention Program, offered through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, will provide funding to help recipients develop and enhance strategies to prevent youth violence, including youth gang involvement and youth gang or group violence. The solicitation is focused on youth who are at risk of committing violence, and applications are due to Grants.gov by June 12 and to JustGrants by June 26. Learn More
Biden-Harris Administration Announces Nearly $100 Million in Continued Support for Mental Health and Student Wellness
The U.S. Department of Education announced more than $95 million in awards across 35 states to increase access to school-based mental health services and strengthen the pipeline of mental health professionals in high-needs school districts. The awards were funded by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and they help advance efforts to tackle the mental health crisis in our schools. Read More
