NIMH Facebook Live Event: Youth Suicide Prevention

In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) will host a Facebook Live event on youth suicide prevention. During the event, NIMH experts will lead a discussion on how to talk to youth about suicide risk, how to identify the warning signs of suicide, risk factors for suicide, and NIMH-supported research on interventions for youth suicide prevention.

Responding to Sextortion Related Offenses Against Children

This 1-day virtual training will identify Sextortion methods and tactics used by offenders, and describe why youth are vulnerable to these tactics. The training will explain the long-term impact of these crimes on victims, offer a victim-centered response, and provide information on reporting these crimes to law enforcement, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the electronic service provider(s). This course will conclude with identifying effective Sextortion prevention messages for youth, parents, and educators.

Human Trafficking Webinar Series - Centering the Experience of Boys, Young Men, and Male Identifying Students in Human Trafficking

Boys, young men, and male identifying youth are often overlooked when it comes to recognizing and preventing human trafficking. This webinar will explore how and why that is, and how methods of supporting males can differ from females. Researchers will present data dispelling the myth that exploitation of children is a problem that only affects cisgender girls and young women, as well as data showing that boys and male identifying youth are, in fact, frequently exploited and trafficked.
