This learning series examines the current state of K-12 school security and covers proactive security measures designed to enhance building and perimeter protection, secure classrooms and interior learning facilities, prevent active shooter incidents and enhance situational awareness. This series will also provide resources on the PASS Guidelines and potential grant funding opportunities for school safety and security improvement projects.

In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) will host a Facebook Live event on youth suicide prevention. During the event, NIMH experts will lead a discussion on how to talk to youth about suicide risk, how to identify the warning signs of suicide, risk factors for suicide, and NIMH-supported research on interventions for youth suicide prevention.

This 1-day virtual training will identify Sextortion methods and tactics used by offenders, and describe why youth are vulnerable to these tactics. The training will explain the long-term impact of these crimes on victims, offer a victim-centered response, and provide information on reporting these crimes to law enforcement, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the electronic service provider(s). This course will conclude with identifying effective Sextortion prevention messages for youth, parents, and educators.

Boys, young men, and male identifying youth are often overlooked when it comes to recognizing and preventing human trafficking. This webinar will explore how and why that is, and how methods of supporting males can differ from females. Researchers will present data dispelling the myth that exploitation of children is a problem that only affects cisgender girls and young women, as well as data showing that boys and male identifying youth are, in fact, frequently exploited and trafficked.

This webinar will feature a panel of school leaders, students, federal government officials, and experts who will discuss the current state of student and educator mental health and policies to improve the tools available to K-12 schools.

This virtual learning series focuses on advancing high quality, sustainable school mental health from a multi-tiered system of support, trauma sensitive, and culturally responsive and equitable lens.

Day two sessions of the National Student Privacy and Data Security Summer Webinar Series will focus on data security and data breach incident response. These sessions will provide training on current data security best practices for education data systems and lead participants through a simulated data breach.

This back-to-school webinar will explore federal school safety training, technical assistance, and resources available to K-12 schools and school districts. The session will specifically focus on information related to school safety, school climate, and student mental health supports.

This in-person school safety conference, while geared towards Bureau of Justice Assistance STOP grantees, is open to all K-12 school safety teams, community partners, and collaborators across the United States.
