DOJ Releases School Safety Funding Opportunities
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) released the FY24 Students, Teachers, and Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Program Competitive Solicitation, which provides funding to increase school safety by implementing solutions that will improve school climate. Solutions include school-based behavioral threat assessments and/or intervention teams to identify school violence risks among students, technological innovations that are shown to increase school safety such as anonymous reporting technology, and other school safety strategies that assist in preventing violence. Applications also opened for the School Violence Prevention Program, which provides funding to states, units of local government, Indian tribes, and their public agencies to improve security at schools and on school grounds in the jurisdiction of the grantee through evidence-based school safety programs and technology. DHS Launches Know2Protect Public Awareness Campaign to Combat Online Child Exploitation and Abuse
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Know2Protect, Together We Can Stop Online Child ExploitationTM, a first-of-its-kind national public awareness campaign that brings together public and private sector partners. Through Know2Protect, DHS and its partners will educate and empower young people, parents, and trusted adults on ways to prevent and combat exploitation and abuse both on and offline, explain how to report incidents of these crimes, and offer support resources for victims and survivors of online child sexual exploitation and abuse. Federal Government to Host First-Ever Summit for Sustainable and Healthy K-12 School Buildings and Grounds
The federal government will host the Summit for Sustainable and Healthy K-12 Infrastructure on April 26 to highlight the need for sustainable 21st-century school infrastructure and the impact that facility conditions can have on student and teacher health and learning outcomes. The summit, which will be livestreamed on YouTube, will also provide deeper insight into the tools and existing commitments offered by the federal government to invest in school sustainability and infrastructure. Applications Open for DHS FY24 Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Grants
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) Grant Program Notice of Funding Opportunity. The TVTP Grant Program provides funding for state, local, tribal, and territorial governments; nonprofits; and institutions of higher education to establish or enhance capabilities to prevent targeted violence and terrorism. Funding supports online, in-person, and hybrid projects that address the threat of online pathways to violence as well as the threat of violence in physical spaces. DOJ Announces Funding Opportunities Under Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice is seeking applications for funding of rigorous, independent evaluation projects funded under the OJP Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI). The CVIPI provides resources to support evidence-informed violence intervention and prevention programs in communities across the United States. This solicitation includes two funding categories: 1) evaluation research of programmatic sites funded under the OJP FY23 and FY24 CVIPI solicitations and 2) evaluation research of other community-violence programs. ED Launches Government Coordinating Council to Strengthen Cybersecurity in Schools
The U.S. Department of Education (ED), in coordination with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, launched the Government Coordinating Council for the Education Facilities Subsector. This new council signifies a unique level of collaboration between federal, state, tribal, and local governments to protect K-12 educational institutions from cybersecurity threats and aims to foster a more resilient and secure K-12 digital infrastructure through structured dialogue and shared best practices.
